Back at DDB London I loved working on Volkswagen and this campaign for the GTI is still close to my heart. The brief was very open (‘the car you’ll love to drive’) but we got to thinking how driving was a bit of a lost art and how, if you live in a big city, the only time it’s enjoyable is at night. There were websites, night routes and midnight test drives. The hero piece was a film set to an old Richard Burton recording of Dylan Thomas’s ‘Under Milkwood.’ This won all the awards and I still get fan mail about it.
